One thing that is always confusing to a new player is the various types of ammo provided, and the effects of each. The practice is usually to constantly use a certain type ammo by default, but what about all the others? Using the right type of ammo in certain situations can be extremely dire. This guide will cover everything you need to know about ammo types, and give the effects of each.
First and foremost I want to point out some attributes on every piece of ammunition. Those attributes are the base shield and armor damage. These numbers have been phased out for some time, and are irrelevant to the game now. Before EVE ammo would do a certain amount of damage to each per the ammunition, but now it's simply a reminder of how it use to be.
Below I will show spreadsheets with each type of ammunition for each weapon. Each small ammunition is the base damage for all sizes. As the size increases the damage is multiplied a certain amount; for instance medium is small damage multiplied by 2. When dealing with faction ammunition the damage is also multiplied by a percentage. In an example Arch Angel ammunition is 10% higher than it's standard counterpart. Looking at the ammo in this way makes it a lot easier to understand; instead of looking at damage numbers for various factions.
Ammo Spreadsheets
Each spreadsheet has the attributes needed for each ammo type; Range/Tracking for projectiles, Range/Capacitor Need for Hybrids/Lasers, and Velocity/Explosion Radius/Explosion Velocity/Flight Time for missiles. Projectiles, Hybrids, and Lasers all show how much damage of each type they do as well as a collective total for each. Missiles show a single damage number for every type of damage since they do not vary between the different types.

Hopefully this gives anyone a positive perspective on the different types of ammunition, and summarizes their strengths. Enjoy, and fly safe. o/
