EVE Online Hold'Em

One thing that I just absolutely love about EVE more than anything is the meta-gaming that goes on outside of the game. Out of all the online games I've played over the past fifteen years, EVE is the only one I've ever had an interest in what was going on outside of the game as well. It was very long after I started playing that I learned about EOH, also known as EVE Online Hold'Em. At their site, you setup an account, send ISK to their corp in-game, and start playing Texas Hold'Em with other EVE players.

If there is one thing I like to do more in my free time aside from EVE Online, is to play poker at a friend's house with all our buddies. We sit around, talk smack, and talk about other poker games. With EOH you can do just about the same, except that if you're good at poker you can actually make your character some serious ISK. Unlike at a friend's house or a tournament, you can leave the table after getting a pile of chips, and then cash in your chips then start on a new table to make more. If you're new to EVE Online this is a great way to have money like a veteran player, without having to have the employment history of a die-hard EVE player.

Aside from the money-making, EOH is a great place to meet new players, relax, and take a break from those pesky missions. Unfortunately, there is one thing I don't like about EOH; with the poker application they use for their site you cannot play EOH with the in-game browser, so expect to play on another screen, system, or alt-tabbed from the game. This was one problem that really bothered me at first, but after looking at other EVE based poker sites, this one is by far the best. All the others require spending large amounts of ISK to even get started, or their poker apps aren't that great at all. Even so, they are good sites as well, and encourage anyone to play on any one they find to be most suited.
