All About Clones

Jump Clones are invaluable to each pilot, but a lot of the time ignored. They are pretty much mandatory to PvP and Wormhole pilots as they are constantly in danger of being podded. Aside from helping you save that expensive clone, Jump Clones also help you move over large distances. These are things that will be discussed in this article, as well as how to setup Jump Clones in stations and Clone Vat Bays.

Clone Use

Jump Clones are quite helpful to all pilots, but extremely helpful to any pilot that wants to preserve a clone that is full of expensive implants from a possible risk of losing it. Such times might include when your corporation is at war, or PvPing in an area where Concord will not assist you, or when going into a wormhole where sleepers will pod you. No matter what your reason is, the whole point is to keep your "shiny" clone somewhere safe when putting your clone at risk.

Aside from the general use of keeping clones safe, it's also a great way to traverse the universe quickly. A lot of pilots that live in Null-Sec space will use clones jumping to a high-sec station, allowing them to disregard the trip it would take to get there from Null-Sec. Note: You can only jump clones every 24 hours.

Empire Clones

A lot of people will ignore dealing with jump clones, because when starting out your only option is to get a clone in a station where you hold a standing above 8.0. As many players know this is a long process to get that sort of standing. Fortunately there is a workaround for this. If you're in a corporation that has the required standing the station will use that standing when installing a clone. If your corporation does not have standings high enough, don't fret! The corporation Estel Arador Corp Services offers jump cloning services for free! So even if you don't want to grind through the standings you can easily get yourself a jump clone.

Clone Vat Bays

One of the least utilized features in the game is the use of the Clone Vat Bay. While the lack of use is due to being very limited, it's always good to know how it works. First off these can only be used on Titans and Capital Industrial Ships (Rorqual). The pilot with the Clone Vat Bay will start the module when pilots are within 20km of the ship using the Clone Vat Bay. The Capital pilot then has the option to invite pilots to use the Clone Vat Bay by right-clicking the capital ship. Once this is done the pilots can agree to install a clone. The clone sits in the Clone Vat Bay until a pilot jumps to it, or destroys it. One of the limitations of the Clone Vat Bay is that it can only hold up to 10 clones.

Losing Clones

This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions in EVE Online; what happens when you lose a clone when it hasn't been upgraded to hold all the SP the pilot has? When you lose a clone that doesn't have the required clone to hold all of your SP your highest ranked, highest level skill will lose SP. I have yet to find a definite amount documented, but it's been lead to believe that it is 5% of your total SP that is lost. Indefinitely the largest amount that can be lost is 2,048,000 SP. So ignore those people that say that you lose all the SP that the clone doesn't cover, or that it's "Game Over".

Losing Access to a Medical Facility

If you setup your medical facility to be in a factional warfare area or in a player run station, there is a chance that the station can be inaccessible. When this happens your clone will default to the starter school your character was created at. Once again, it's another situation where it's not "Game Over" for the player, but many that do not really know will claim it to be. CCP isn't as brutal as many think, and have this covered for you.

Surely this has answered some questions for many players, and hope that this makes your game a bit more enjoyable. Have fun and fly safe. o/
