EVEoLution Fitting Guide

Fitting has never been something well documented in EVE, and you probably run across more people criticizing your fits, instead of helping you make it better. So in this article I'm going to try to go over everything I can offer in terms of learning to fit. Everything from different types of tanks, to optimizing your fits for the best functionality.  I will mention that this guide was made over the course of several writing sessions due to continuously coming back to it wanting to add more to it, and might add more later if any of it turns out to be lacking in a certain area.

Mobile 3rd Party Apps

One thing EVE Online is well known for is it's API system, and all the applications and utilities that manifest because of it. Surprisingly a small portion of the great apps are on mobile devices, and usually overlooked. So in this article I thought I'd share some of my favorite mobile applications made to help EVE players benefit more from the game.

Making ISK - Blueprints & Invention

Many may have noticed that in the "Making ISK" articles, blueprints were not mentioned. The reason being is that manufacturing, invention, and blueprint research can fill up whole articles. So without further a due, I'm bringing you this article covering blueprints. In this article I will cover everything dealing with blueprints with a strong focus on optimizing your profit.

[EVEoLution] - Update: Request For Comments

Hello fellow capsuleers!

First off thank you all for helping EVEoLution gain enough popularity to be viewed 20,000 times!  Knowing that the site makes a difference drives me to give you more and more great content.

Where are the new articles?

As some may have noticed I haven't been updating the blog as much as usual. With the summer upon us, a plethora of rocks in the road of life, and a new puppy 'Cleo', I have not had the time to update this blog as much as I've wanted. To add I haven't even had time to play EVE itself. Since the Odyssey patch, I've played about 2 hours to try out the new Exploration system (expect an article on it soon), but was abruptly halted. Of course I'm itching to come back soon, and wanted to know what all of you would like to see.

What Do You Want To See?

There are still a lot of articles I plan to finish, but I want to know what my readers want to hear about. Please feel free to comment on this post with what you would like to know more about in EVE Online. Here is the list of articles in progress:

Fitting Guide - Rules of Thumb
Making ISK - Blueprints
Bridges, Cyno, and Carriers - Oh My!
Starting Planetary Interaction
Ammo Types
Moon Mining (Odyssey Edition)
Making a Successful Corporation
Understanding Tech 3 Ships
Sovereignty Explained
Security Status (Odyssey Edition)
Laser Turret Models (I know, it should have been done a long time ago)
Mobile 3rd Party Applications
Starting Capital Ships, and Skills
Odyssey Exploration

So that's what you have to look forward to at least, but any and all ideas will be done as well; so leave your comments below.

The Future of EVEoLution

I understand in this day and age, reading isn't the primary form of information demanded. With that said, I've setup a Twitch TV account for EVEoLution to start streaming EVE, and to also hold various guide videos as well. I've also started posting various EVE-related updates on Twitter. Both of these will be linked on the site soon, and hope that everyone enjoys these additions.

So that's it in a nutshell. I do appreciate everyone's comments, links to the site, and overall viewing of this site. Thank you, and play some EVE for me until I can free up time again! o7

Skill training - Implants, Boosters, and Remaps

I wanted to write an article to inform players about many of the details regarding skill training. While this may seem like basic knowledge for many players, there are various things overlooked when creating an alternate character. The four day skill plan for cyno alts will also be mentioned in this article, so that you can create these alts as quickly as possible; thus allowing you to get back to your normal EVE life.

Implant Sets and Bonuses

Here's a simple quick-reference for implant sets. Most of the information has been condensed, so if you are not familiar with an implant you might want to read the in-game description for that implant first. This reference basically gives you the information you're looking for when looking through the implants, allowing you to skim through the attributes, instead of having to look them up. It can also be noted that the higher the slot number, the higher the secondary effect, and also the higher the price. Enjoy!

Colorful UI Settings

Making your EVE Online client your own is one thing that the game has always given it's player. Unlike many other MMOs, you're given the ability to rearrange your UI exactly how you want it, but what about all those pretty colorful interfaces you might see from other players? Well, in this article I will cover how to accomplish this, as well as getting those nifty in-game ANSI icons as well.

Microwarp Cloaking Warp Trick

The MWD Cloak warping trick is a very old EVE Online trick that was once called an exploit, and later labeled by CCP as "a clever use of game mechanics". What the trick allowed players to do was warp away from players, or NPCs with a very small margin of time to be targeted because of a cloaking system. This become extremely helpful for players that were not in a covert ops ship, but wanted the same ability to hide behind a cloak when travelling. So now I'm going to offer a guide on how to accomplish this trick, since simply explaining the process can leave new players in the dark.

[Scam Report] - Contract Want To Buy Scam

Scammers are now making the scams a bit more intricate, but still fairly obvious. With the station sell order spiking, they are now placing contracts offering to buy these overpriced items.

Its All About the Maps

One of the most valuable tools in EVE is the in-game Star Map. With this a player can find out lots of information about their surroundings, and their current route. Many players are not accustom to using this to their advantage, and some don't even know of it's ability. In this article I'll go over these points, as well as a few practices to make the most of this invaluable tool.

[CSM8] - Our Future

I wanted to give this quick shout out to all the EVE players that haven't taken an interest in voting for CSM8 candidates. In no way will I give a biased opinion about the candidates, and will show you why it matters that we vote. First off it needs to be understood that the Council of Stellar Management is the liaison between CCP and the player base. What we want to be fixed we relay to CSM, and they tell CCP what the players want. Of course this doesn't mean every issue gets pushed to CCP as some members feel that other issues take priority.

Understanding Warp Bubbles

It's finally time to cover this subject. There are a few things to note on this particular game mechanic; bubble use, bubble effects, bubble types and bubble counter measures. All can be yours as you read on. o/

ISK The Guide

Deep in the bowels of my article draft list was this article waiting to be finished. As one of the most important resources for both new and old capsuleers is ISK The Guide. No matter what the circumstances are this guide is great for just about anyone. ISK the Guide skims the surface of everything pertaining to EVE Online, and a little bit more; giving any reader a great reference for all parts of the game. Without a doubt this is a must have for anyone playing EVE Online, and a great manual for new players to learn from.

ISK the Guide

ISK the Guide Volume 2 "PVP" is in the process of being translated to English, offering all readers information pertaining to PvP.

All About Clones

Jump Clones are invaluable to each pilot, but a lot of the time ignored. They are pretty much mandatory to PvP and Wormhole pilots as they are constantly in danger of being podded. Aside from helping you save that expensive clone, Jump Clones also help you move over large distances. These are things that will be discussed in this article, as well as how to setup Jump Clones in stations and Clone Vat Bays.

Pyfa Retribution 1.1 Update

I know the guys at EVEfit have been very busy, but an update for Retribution 1.1 still hasn't been made public. After a few painful attempts at using EFT again, I decided it was time to attempt to update it myself. The app itself doesn't need to be updated but the database file does. So with a new DB file the new ship changes, and AARs are now present.

Simply download the Retribution 1.1 DB file here, and open up the staticdata folder in your Pyfa directory (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Pyfa\staticdata). Change the name of your eve.db file to eve-old, and copy the new eve.db file in it's place. Start Pyfa, and rejoice as your now have the updated data!

Pyfa DB File Produced: 3.13.2013

Keep in mind I am in no way affiliated with EVEfit, and that this is not a official update. I am simply a Pyfa fan that does not like to use EFT, and understands that others are the same way.

Edit: EVEfit just released a 1.1.6 right after posting this. It can be found here.

Profile Maintenance and Files

If you have played EVE so long that you have run across the pain of setting up your profiles again due to clearing your cache, or reinstalling, then you might want to consider making backups of your profiles. Even if you have not experienced that, imagine having to setup your UI, Overview, and everything else from scratch. It's not a pretty picture. This articles I'll go over the profile folder, it's files, and how to maintain them effectively not destructively.

[Retribution 1.0] - Combat Logs & Notifications Settings

Being able to see what is exactly going on using the damage notifications can be helpful. Before Retribution hordes of text would scroll past, and your closest chance of being able to see it was using the Logs window. Since the Retribution patch it has become much more useful, with a load of options to go with it.

EVE Online Acronyms, Phrases, & Lingo

This is a list of the various Acronyms and phrases used in EVE. This list contains everything from the short names for various modules, to roles in a fleet, and then some. Some can be cross-referenced with other games, but there are a lot that are EVE specific.

Understanding Gate Types

Like many other things in EVE gate types are usually overlooked. Knowing the different types, and how they effect you can help save you from certain demise, or enable you to trap another pilot. There are five types of gates, and each one is different from the other. In this article I'll show you how to differentiate between each, and how they effect your routes.

Using Local Chat

Many EVE players will tell you that the local chat window is one of the most important things to have on your screen. The reason being is in various circumstances you want to know what is going on in your system, especially if you're in a hostile environment; where it could be low to null security space, or even in high security space during a war. The Local chat window is an invaluable tool for making sure you know the situation of your present location with little effort.
