Know Your Enemy - Checking Guns

One habit to get into when doing solo PvP is checking the guns of the opponent so that you can find and exploit the weakness they have. In this article we'll discuss how to do this, and how to find out what your enemy is using.

After some time it may become a habit to not only Ctrl-Click your opponent to target them, but to also Alt-Click them to look at their ship. Using Alt-Click on an enemy ship in the brackets or overview will initiate the "Look At" function zooming into the enemy's ship model. When doing such you can easily check their gun graphic models to see what guns they are using. By doing so you will then be able to determine their optimal range, falloff range, and tracking by doing so. The reason this is so important is that you want to use this info to give yourself the advantage in the fight.

The information you gather from the guns will allow you to decide if you need to keep range on the ship, or come in close while orbiting fast so that you cannot be tracked. Doing such will keep the enemy from even hitting you. Of course there are times when you can't avoid being in their range, but in case that's an option you'll know it. Not only that, you will also know the general fit they are using just by the guns. While that's a whole new article, keep it in the back of your mind for a later time.

In an example if you fighting a ship using projectile artillery, and you are using projectile auto cannons staying close to their ship while orbiting at a close range to keep your transversal velocity up as much as possible; doing so will not allow your enemy to hit you at all. If the situation is the other way around, you will want to "kite" your enemy keeping them at range while orbiting at a larger distance that is out of range of their auto cannons.

I will be providing articles that cover a certain type of weapon, and their graphic models so you can easily spot each type of weapon easily, along with the statistics that accompany them.  To get started you can find the projectile weapons article here.

While it cannot be denied that this is useful, I've never been able to keep all that stuff straight. Besides, how can I keep up my reputation of breaking peoples hands with my face if I KNOW what their using against me?

If you have more than three ragged braincells, this is super beneficial!
